Nanach Times

HH amazing times we live in. In former good times refugees were very welcome - they were instantly sold as slaves! In former good times there was usually a constant struggle of world conquest, today, in most of the civil world, governments have a hard enough time dealing with the rights and privileges of their citizens, the last thing they want is to add to their problems.

Everytime you say Na Nach Nachma Nachman MeUman, or write it, or even think it, you help spread the spirit of freedom in the world. Nanach is the root and source of emancipation and liberty!

How to Nanach on Shabos

HH this post is in the merit of Faigy Weiss one of my holier friends on Facebook may H"Y bless her and shine for her the light of Na Nach Nachma Nachman MeUman!

Rabbi Nachman said that even a huge tzadik and talmid chuchum is probably going to violate the Shabos in some way (on his level), the rectification for this - Rabbainu revealed - is to eat a lot of good food on Shabos, thus honoring the Shabos which rectifies all the violations. So as you see the main thing is to sing Na Nach Nachma Nachman MeUman! [in the litvak world they were also worried about not being able to guard from desecrating the Shabos, so they propounded the daily study of the laws of Shabos. Rabbainu however saw past this, revealing that even a tzadik who knows clearly all the laws of Shabos can run into problems, so they are chasing after a false lead, the answer lies in changing one's attitude to that of Shabos, and then everything will be smooth and holy B"H).

Rabbi Nachman once asked Rabbi Nussun how he feels on Shabos, and Rabbi Nussun answered that sometimes he feels "frum" (i.e. fear of Heaven), and Rabbainu told him that he was mistaken - the main thing on Shabos is to be happy very happy! Later Rabbainu warned Rabbi Nussun not to get worried about being able to be happy on Shabos - just be free to be happy!!!! So as you see the main thing is to sing Na Nach Nachma Nachman MeUman!

Article about Nanach

Check out this article about Nanach:

It gives me a huge honor stating:  Recently, a brand-new Na-Nach political party was started. Their publicity video might be the strangest thing we’ve ever seen–involving a floating State of Israel, a lion, and a boogie-ing High Priest in ceremonial dress. You can watch it here.

New Nanach Political Party

HH new has gotten out that the holy Nanach cult - those people that go to Rabbi Nachman in Uman - are starting a political party to gain representation in the knesset. There is truth in this. However the media in their quest to figure out what's going on - because to simply get the straight truth is too difficult - has been interviewing different people, who with good intentions and desires to spread the excitement said some pretty senseless things that do not in any way reflect or represent the holy message of Na Nach Nachma Nachman MeUman. B"H in good time the real Nanach will give a correct representation to you and to all.

Here's one example of the media's attempt to figure out what's going on:

B"H the party has still to decide on a name, because they have been told that they can not call themselves Na Nach. All suggestions are welcome.

The Rhythm of Music

This is a little piece I just wrote in reply to an invitation to an interview about Nanach.

Regarding techno music, I can tell you this, music can generally be divided into two parts - the rhythm and the melody. Whereas the melody appeals and calls to play learned moods, passions, experiences, and the like, the rhythm addresses one's very life blood coursing in the veins. Thus often pounding drums are the main instruments in groups that are accessing the very base and prime lifesource, as is often the case in primitive tribes and the uneducated. With Nanach this comes full circle. Imagine the genius of someone who can speak and carry about consciously intending every action - without using motor skills and functions! This is where the genius of holy Masters comes to play - these holy masters rebuilt every tiny movement sanctifying it with holy intentions as an offering to the True Holy Merciful One G-d. So in the techno music the Nanach are playing, relying heavily on the spirit of Our Master - Na Nach Nachma Nachman MeUman, the Nanach pump out new life, from a very high and holy place, raising the very source of life to it's source. This is the life!

BH good news about the New Nanach Political Party

B"H keep praying - until we see this through B"H.

The Da'as of an Animal

הלכות תפילין ד:ה

(Painting by Lasar Segall)

When a person sees that there is crookedness in his heart, especially when there is a lot of crookedness, Heaven forbid, he must then perceive himself to be like an animal and completely remove any semblance of knowledge or awareness from his mind.  He must then rely entirely on faith and carry himself with purity and simplicity alone.  He will then merit tremendous awareness of Hashem.  This is related to the consciousness of tefillin.

Preventing Nocturnal Emissions through the Bedtime Shema

הלכות קריאת שמע על המטה א:א

(Painting by Miriam Gair)

One way the desire for sexual immorality overcomes a person is when he is sleeping, and Heaven forbid has a nocturnal emission.  Therefore, in order to prevent this from happening a person should nullify and blot out any inappropriate thoughts from his mind before going to sleep.  One great way to accomplish this is by reading the Bedtime Shema, which is a great rectification for such thoughts and possible occurrences.  This is because when one accepts upon himself the Yoke of Heaven just before going to sleep he separates his soul from the souls of the erev rav, and includes his soul within the 12 Tribes, which correspond to the Kingship of Holiness.  By doing this he distances himself from evil thoughts.  And, then as he is sleeping he will be able to acquire a new soul and new insights into the Torah.  This is the foundation of the entire blessing of HaMapil as well as all of the verses and confessions that we are accustomed to say in the Bedtime Shema.

Holy drunkards

This Shabos in Meron - by Rashb"i I was very disappointed with the reading of the Torah - as I heard the verse "these are the children of Noach" pronounced "these are the children of Chum" which would make the world that much closer to slavery (Obama's influence?). So I went to a different minyan to hear the Torah reading properly. This other minyan enlisted me to read the Torah. For the 6th aliyah they called up someone who is known to get drunk frequently. So when I read the verse "and he drank and got drunk" I almost burst out laughing, and till the end of the reading I had to fight off a serious bout of giggles.

Thank G-d for Na Nach Nachma Nachman MeUman!

Divine Retribution?

A few months ago a certain Nanach I know very well had the pleasure and the privilege of getting kicked out of various synagogues in Montreal, most notably Belz where he was kicked out publicly in front of many of the congregants. So it is very interesting to learn that since then they have been plagued with robberies and vandalism

Just for your to know...

HH sometimes HY lets a person know what isn't good for him. E.g. let's say there's a poor person who need new shoes, and he's screaming and praying to H"Y for new shoes. Then he chances upon a place where lo and behold someone is giving out hundreds of pairs of shoes for free. This poor person sees this taking place, and for some reason or another he is not given a single pair. This is such an obvious message from G-d to him, "I've heard your prayers, it is very much in My ability to give you many new pairs of shoes, but I know that this is not good for you...".

In a similar way, when a really good friend kind of betrays you is some way, and even though in this issue you diverge from your friend, in general your friendship is strong enough to weather that chance betrayal and divergence, it's like HY is saying, "Please bare with me as I redirect you in a more proper course...".

Taking this to today, here and now - the Political Party of Na Nach  to which I had invested considerably, my time, money, energy, attention, etc., was hijacked by some of my friends, may H"Y protect and bless them, and so I have now more or less dropped this project, B"H.

How do they let the Petek overturn everything they stand for????

HH its so wild - how does a little piece of paper turn over the whole world???? The rabbis should have gotten together to ban and put an end to the Petek - how do they let their very positions, everything they stand for, to be jeopardized and overturned by a slip of paper??? So the the rabbis, shach and others, they got together to ban the Petek. As they prepared to enact the ban, someone approached them and said, "you can not ban the Petek, Rabbi Moshe Feinstien gave an approbation to the Petek!" So they called up America to ascertain if this was in fact true, and they confirmed that Rabbi Moshe Feinstien had in fact given his approbation to the holiness and awesomeness of the Holy Petek. So without a choice shach and the rabbis had to back down.... And thus the Petek shines out continuing to confound the whole world!!!! Na Nach Nachma Nachman MeUman!

Awesome Tomb of Saba Yisroel Baal Hapetek

Nanach tidbits.

HH recently I was encouraged to do some explaining on FB, so I'll share some tidbits here:

HH certain things are witnesses to their own veracity. Take e.g. someone arguing how educated he is, just by his vocabulary, grammar, citations etc. one can already gain idea of the truth of his claims. If a person present a magnificent painting claiming that it is a Rembrandt, it might be disputed, but one thing can be ascertained and is evidence for itself - that the painting is on such a high standard that we know of no other painter other than rembrandt that could have produced this painting, so either it is actually a remb. or his equal. So too is with the holy Torah and specifically Na Nach Nachma Nachman MeUman, no one ever came close to revealing anything of this magnitude, power, beauty, and awesomeness, so either it is actually Rabbi Nachman of Breslov himself, or there is some hidden holy Tzadik disguising himself as him!!!!!!

Regarding Kabala and the Zohar:
  • Simcha Hochman HH when the Zohar was first found there was some dispute to it's authenticity but ultimately everyone - even the litvaks accepted it - except certain parts which had been inserted by unworthy people. The Zohar is the most classic and comprehensive body of Kabala, but there are hundred of kabalistic books that have been authored and published since messianic times. These works were produced by very very holy sages who merited to what they merited.
  • Simcha Hochman HH there are many areas of Kabala - there is a field of Kabala called Kabala maasiyos - working kabala - in this field the kabalist uses Divine names, and names of angels, and names of demons, for some purpose. Even the greatest and holiest of the Kabalists warned very strongly not to get involved in this - it can be very dangerous in many ways. However the main study of Kabala is the study of understanding how H"Y created, creates, and runs and interacts with creation - this something that every person must seek out - for if not he is similar to an animal that exists in this world for no purpose just to survive. Man was designed to achieve meaning and true identification with HY, this is the study of Kabala.
  • Simcha Hochman HH nonetheless, today even the study of kabala has become a very secular study, like the way the Talmud is studied by most people. It has become a pursuit of mental stimuli, to dissect, to be challenged, and to prove one's intellect. Therefore the only true way of taking up cause that was the Kabala is through the holy teaching of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov - better known as Na Nach Nachma Nachman MeUman.
Probably the earliest Kabalistic text we have is the Book Of Creation, which was written by our Father Abraham. There are however works that were authored even earlier, because the Kabala is part of the Torah, and the Torah is what G-d used to create the world. When you learn the Kabala you can see this straight out - the way the Torah is the building block of the world. This is the difference between secular science and the Torah, science only measures what has already been created, but the Torah is the actual living force, and when one studies it he is not G"F merely measuring but building and creating. All the more so by singing this holy song Na Nach Nachma Nachman MeUman!
Regarding the difference between real Torah knowledge and other studies:
    • Simcha Hochman HH as far as the claim that G-d forbid Nanach would regress the world into the dark ages, the very opposite is the truth, there is no wisdom that even touches the surface of what Rabbi Nachman revealed. The greatest scholars, even secular scholars agree that Rabbi Nachman's works have a depth and profundity unmatched. And know this, that the wisdoms of the world are called maid servants, they are superficial measurements, where as true knowledge is actual life! If we would merit to junk all the garbage of exterior superficial measuring rods and begin to open our hearts and minds to G-d knowledge we would be able to hands on create what scientists are completely baffled even measuring.
    • Simcha Hochman HH imagine someone throwing a pebble into the water causing a ripple effect - in a distance stand a scientist filming the water, the camera didn't pick up the pebble, just that at D hour all of the sudden ripples occur, so the scientist gets busy measuring them, and coming up with formulea to explain their direction etc., look how ridiculous and absurd this scientist is, he's missing the boat, if he would just have seen the pebble he would chuck all his formulea into the garbage - even though they are to some degree correct in showing the measured result, but they completely miss the point. In this same way the scientist miss the boat about the creation of the world.
    • Simcha Hochman HH the truth is closer to the idea made famous in the movie matrix, that almost everything that people experience can be programmed into their brain. That is the difference between real knowledge and science and philosophy. Real Torah Knowledge is by definition REAL - a person is alive and cognizant of G-D!!! This is actual live life!
    • Simcha Hochman Na Nach Nachma Nachman MeUman!

Sefer Hamidos - Alef Bet Book - Book of Traits

B"H after the successful project of translating Rabbi Nachman's stories into English - resulting in the most accurate version and cheapest production (5 shekel!) - and B"H the most published - as we already have put out 5 thousand and we're just beginning..., we are now working on translating Sefer Hamidos B"H. B"H about 1/4 of this holy work has already been done. Anyone who is capable and willing to help please get in touch with us a.s.a.p..

Right now B"H I'm posting the translation that has already been completed here:

Meforsumim - can it get any worse?

B"H this Simchas Torah I celebrated mostly by the holy tomb of Shimon Hatzadik, and maybe partly in my merit the whole congregation sang Nanach and the Petek - in the mincha hakafos and the first night. The day hakafos however were very very disappointing and I satisfied myself with almost a very bare minimum of circling around the Torah - I was conscious that two mefursamim had joined us for these hakafos, but there was nothing I could do - except in a different room I danced a little more. After the hakafos of the day the congregation split into two groups, and I saw that each mefursam lay their hands on a group and I couldn't decide on the lesser evil, so I picked the smaller group and I was privy to see something I never saw or imagined - everyone in the group got called up to the Torah, and they asked the mefursam if he wants the aliyah which finishes the Torah or the one the begins the Torah - each very very special, so the mefursam says - "baider" - both! And he proceeds to take both aliyas!!! This was so disgusting and revolting to me that I was not able to continue praying with them, and after hearing the Torah reading I completed the prayers on my own.

101 Times + 101 Times

Have yet to write my main post relating the Siyum of Maseches Berachos of Daf Yomi which took place on the 4th day of Succos to the 202th Yarhzeit of Rabbeinu.  Meanwhile, there is an aspect of learning Torah as related to the number 202, which deserves its own post.

The Gemoro in Maseches Chagiga notes that the phrase in Koheles (that we will read this Shabbos Chol HaMoed Succos) "one who serves G-d" refers to one who goes over his learning 101 times, in contrast to one who goes over his learning only 100 times.  Is this/these number(s) picked just to illustrate an example, or is there a specific reason why this/these number(s) is chosen?

Near the conclusion of Malachi, the last of 12 parts of the Sefer in Tanach called Trei Asar, it states Zicru Toras Moshe Avdi  "Remember the Torah of Moshe My servant..."  It is true that that the name of the part of the Sefer where this is written - Malachi - who was the last of the Nevi'im, is the Gematria of 101.  It is also mentioned that the difference of Gematria between the words forget and remember in Hebrew is 101; hence, the Remez from the Torah that in order to permanently remember a piece of Torah, one needs to learn it 101 times.

With this said, it is most noteworthy to mention that it has been said of Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, ZTVK"L, the leading Posek of the previous generation, and the one who gave a Haskama for the Petek, learned the entire Talmud 202 times (perhaps more, but this is the figure that is given), which is twice the amount of the minimum 101 times that it takes to permanently remember Torah.  It is true that 202 is the Gematria of the word Rav, which is also the Hebrew number for 202, as well as a name of one of the most prominent Amoraim of the Gemoro.  But aside from this, when we learn Torah - even by ourselves, there is Someone who is teaching us - yes, it is Hashem Himself, howbeit in an indirect way in contrast to how Moshe Rabbeinu learned the Torah from Hashem.  Hence, for one to learn a piece of Torah 101 times, it is actually being learned between Hashem and oneself - 202 times.  Perhaps this is the reason that the word for a rabbi is particularly the word Rav=202 (aside from the other titles of Rebbe and Rabbeinu, but I am not to get into this in this post).  And as I mentioned in my post when you scroll down to my post ("Rabbeinu & RAV Aharon"), the Gematria of the names of Rabbeinu and the Rav of the city of Breslov together is 404, which in turn is twice the number 202.  Hence, Rabbi Moshe Feinstein's learning the Talmud actually consisted of at least 404 times, as especially for him, he certainly had the Seyata D'Shemaya from Hashem to learn the entire Talmud to both understand and memorize the entire Talmud, something that relatively few Talmidei Chachomim today can claim to do.

Yes indeed, the fact that the Siyum of the very first Masechta of the Talmud Bavli in the 13th cycle of Daf Yomi fell out on the 202th Yahrzeit of Rabbeinu highlights the above, aside from the fact that the Mispar Katan of the name Nachman as 1+4+8 is 13, this number being the number of ways of Torah interpretation in Torah She'B'Al Peh that is recited daily in conclusion of the Korbonos section of Shacharis.  This is noting that today celebrates the Ushpiz - Aharon, who offered Korbonos as the first Cohen Gadol, whose name in Mispar Katan is also 13 as 2+5+6.  Bearing in mind that this was also the name of the Rav of Breslov in Rabbeinu's times - noting that 13 is the Gematria of the word Echad which refers to Hashem, 13+13=26 which is the Gematria of Hashem's main name YKVK.  This is unlike Moshe Rabbeinu's name which is the Mispar Katan of 12 as 3+4+5, who is mentioned in terms of Toras Moshe in the conclusion of Malachi, the 12th and last part of Trei Asar, the 13th Sefer of the Tanach.  However, in another sense, the regular word that we use to refer to Hashem as Hashem and Moshe's name uses the same letters spelled forward and backward.

With this said, Moshe Rabbeinu, as Hashem's Eved Hashem (Note: The wording of Avoda is mentioned three times in the 51 word Petek!), as he is called at the conclusion of the Chumash that we will read in a few days on Simchas Torah, is the source of the concept of the Tzadik Yesod Olam who encompasses all Tzadikim, and most especially Rabbeinu who was Niftar on the day of the Ushpiz - Moshe Rabbeinu.  And as the Chumash is called Toras Moshe (or in English as the "Five Books of Moses"), the word Chumash is the Gematria of Na Nach Nachma Nachman - 354, and the Gematriot of the letters of Rabbeinu's name as 50,8,40,50 - when deleting the zeros and putting the numbers together, spells the number of Pesukim of the Chumash - 5845!

In conclusion, in counting the number of Parshiyos of the Torah as they are divided in the Sefer Torah with spaces between one section and another (not the 54 Parshiyos that we normally refer to), it winds up that the section of the Chumash that we read in the Sefer Torah on the 4th day of Succos, Rabbeinu's Yahrzeit - U'VaYom HaRevi'i...(On the day of the REISH-BEIT-Yud-Ayin-Yud) about the Korbonos that were offered on this day is the 491th Parsha (section) of the Sefer Torah, and as we know, this is the Gematria of Na Nach Nachma Nachman Meuman!

Rabbeinu & RAV Aharon

While everyone knows that Rabbeinu's Histalkus was on the 4th day of Succos, which is the day of Moshe Rabbeinu of the Ushpizin, he was in fact buried the next day - the 5th day of Succos which is the day of Aharon HaCohen.

Before Rabbeinu's last Rosh Hashana of his life, the only one that he spent in Uman, as per his insistence on all of his followers being together with him for Rosh Hashana, he took exception with two of his followers who explained to him beforehand that they would not be able to make it for RH - a Jew named Moshe, and Rav Aharon, the Rav of Breslov, for whom it wasn't a long distance traveling to Rabbeinu when he used to live in Breslov.  As Rabbeinu put it "Moshe and Aharon won't be here with me for Rosh Hashana".

It seems that with his statement, Rabbeinu predicted when he would pass away and be buried which both happened in Uman.  It would be a mere few weeks later when he passed away on the day that we celebrate the Ushpiz - Moshe Rabbeinu and was buried the following day when we celebrate the Ushpiz - Aharon HaCohen.

What is especially significant of mentioning the above this year is that this is the 202th Yahrzeit of Rabbeinu, and the word Rav spells the Hebrew number 202.  In term of the Rav of Breslov, not only was Rav Aharon not opposed to the Chasidic movement or Breslov, but he himself became a follower of Rabbeinu, even as he had his rabbinical duties as the Rav of the town, which was among his reasons why he felt it wasn't possible for him to travel to Uman to be with Rabbeinu for Rosh Hashana which turned out to be the last RH of Rabbeinu's life in this world.  This was in stark contrast to other rabbis of his day who were the Rav in their respective towns in which there was a Chasidic leader who not only were not followers of the relatively new Chasidic movement, but felt their rabbinical position threatened and at times took action against the Chasidim.

It seems that another Remez to the timing of Rabbeinu's passing and burial in relationship to Moshe Rabbeinu and Aharon HaCohen is hinted in the last verse of the 6th psalm of the Tikkkun HaKelalali - Tehillim Perek 77 - Nochiso Chatzon Amecho B'Yad Moshe V'Aharon "You led your nation like flock by the hand of Moshe and Aharon".  Moreover, this Posuk, like Rabbeinu's name, begins and ends with the letter Noon (perhaps this was Rabbeinu's Posuk for his name that he recited in Shemoneh Esrei).

In terms with the name Aharon, we see that Rabbeinu's title Moharan ends with the exact order of the last three letters as Aharon's name - Hei, Reish, Noon (Sophis).  Perhaps this hints to Rav Aharon, who was the Rav of the town that would name Rabbeinu's Chasidic movement, as he himself was a follower of Rabbeinu, pushing aside his own Kavod to be a follower of a Rebbe, which was to say the least not a very popular thing to do in those times, amidst a time when Misnagdim were literally that, taking a chance that he could be fired from his rabbinical post.  Indeed, he was also a follower of his namesake - the original Aharon - who pushed aside his own Kavod to make peace between his fellow Jews, and his reward was that he became the first Cohen Gadol, for only one who not only had such Ahavas Yisroel, but also helped promote it among other Jews was worthy of such a position in serving Hashem, representing the entire Jewish people with his prayers and Sanctuary offerings.  And along these lines, the Gematria of the names Aharon and Nachman together is 404, which is twice the number 202=RAV.

In fact, both Rabbeinu and Aharon HaCohen are especially related to Succos.  Well, first as far as Aharon is concerned, it was in his Zechus that Bnei Yisroel had the Anenei HaKavod protecting them for 40 years in the Midbar.  And according to one of the rabbinical opinions as to why we live in Succos during this holiday, it is in commeration of the Anenei HaKavod that Hashem used to protect Bnei Yisroel with, and hence we show both our appreciation and our recognition of Hashem treating us with kindness.  And then for Rabbeinu, the word HaSuccos - which is both referring to the holiday (as Chag HaSuccos) and the Succos in which we reside in during the seven day holiday - is the Gematria of Na Nach Nach Nachman Meuman - 491!
