The main thing about a King is that HE is the SUPREME authority. Anyone who opposes any of his decisions to the public is a traitor (punishable by death).
The most dangerous people for the King are those that are closest to him in the case of Moses, his siter, Ahron, Hur. The Jewish King is in direct conflict with Amalek so a person who goes against the King is helping Amalek.
No other Jewish leader has said HE is the King, so there is no valid or legal reason for dispute on this issue. A "txaddik" who cooses not to back this up is a case of "tzaddik ve ra lo"(Tzaddik and not good for him)

The Talmud, quoted often by Rabbainu and his followers, says explicitly: Who are the kings? - The Rabbis. Obviously this means real rabbis not the charlatons that abound today. Saba just said that he's the real thing.
